In this new video, Fashioning Women in Law, Professor Cheryl B. Preston highlights the inconsistency between the representations of women in advertising with where we think the women's liberation movement has taken us. Seeing how women are commonly portrayed, and noting the general lack of objection to these portrayals, raises fundamental questions about the extent to which women are taken as serious, powerful professionals. These images suggest a number of ways women in our culture are urged to adopt the indicia of childishness and incompetence. The video provides a solemn warning about the risks inherent in conduct consistent with these portrayals.
