BY SPECIAL REQUEST - Music for the Comprehensive Ballet Class Rob Wood, Pianist with Shayla Bott | |
Opening Statement Playlist - CD #1 Playlist - CD #2 Bio - Rob Wood |
Ballet teachers know that music is an essential part of a technique class, whether that also includes pointe or men's technique. Musical elements such as meter, rhythm, tempo, texture, structure and stylistic elements are essential to driving the energy of various traditional ballet movements and combinations. (Most recorded ballet class CDs tend to "box the teacher in" with a playlist of prescribed choices.) Of course the perfect option would be to work with an experienced ballet accompanist. We know that that is often not an available option.
This double CD set includes 94 tracks of various traditional musical styles and forms. The playlists are organized by meter (duple or triple), tempo, accent and ultimately traditional forms. CD 2 is an addendum to CD 1 providing additional music repertoire and diversity. This CD set is intended to be educational for both ballet pedagogy students as well as experienced ballet teachers. The ballet teacher should make educated choices by choosing music that is in line with the pedagogical development of various levels of dancers and the combinations that feed that development.
As you use these CDs, pay close attention to the meter, tempo and form or style of the various tracks. You will also see some descriptive words in parenthesis that help to define useful stylistic elements. There are phrasing and counts provided with each track that will tend to align itself with the structure of various traditional ballet combinations.
We encourage you to make a sincere effort to make the best musical choices. Encourage your ballet students to respond to the music as they execute the ballet combinations. All of this should help them to increase their musical awareness and help them to develop into gifted ballet dancers.
With our best wishes,Rob and Shayla
